About Watch D.O.G.S.
Creek View Elementary launched its Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program in early 2017 to engage fathers and father-figures (step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, etc.), inspire children, reduce bullying and enhance the educational environment at our school. WATCH D.O.G.S. is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father-figures in order to provide positive male role models on the school's campus. The program provides a great opportunity for dads to become "Heroes of the Hallways" and actively engage in their children's education and spend more meaningful time with them in the school setting. Just by being on campus, Watch D.O.G.S. learn how to partner with the school to help meet the educational goals of students. Who are Watch D.O.G.S. Creek View Elementary invites any student's father, grandfather, step-father, uncle, and other father-figure to volunteer in the Watch D.O.G.S. program. Our goal for each volunteer is to serve at least one day in the school year. What Watch D.O.G.S. Do Volunteers may be involved in various school activities (as assigned by the school's administration) where they actively engage not only with their own students, but with others as well. During his volunteer time, a Watch D.O.G. will check in at the Front Office and receive a brief orientation and schedule. Our goal is to provide each volunteer with an opportunity to interact not only with their kid's classes, but with all grade levels. Examples of scheduled activities may include: assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, helping in the classroom with a teacher's guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards or spelling, or helping in C.A.M.P. (Computers, Art, Music, and PE). What To Wear on Your Volunteer Day We will provide you with an Official Watch D.O.G.S. "uniform" t-shirt when you arrive. The t-shirt is our gift to you. We ask that you reuse it each time you volunteer as a Watch D.O.G.S. at Creek View Elementary. Dress comfortably, casually, and appropriately for the weather. You'll probably be running around and spending time outdoors (during arrival, recess, and dismissal). Shorts, jeans, or comfortable pants are all good choices. Lastly, wear some comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet for most of the day. |
